Harmony Remote (880)

Postby mathewbeall » Sat May 24, 2008 11:00 am

Hi Folks,

I am sure many of you have harmony remotes - what device works (since Roku Netflix player isn't on the list?)

I added a 'digital set top box' device, manufacturer 'not list' and entered Roku and N1000 as the make/model. It then asked me to verify some IR commands and mistakenly identified it as an older Roku device. But I went ahead anyway, then manually learned all the IR commands. It bit of a hassle, but it works great.

Hi Matt,

It's probably going to be a little while until Logitech updates and ads the remote to the list. Until then, your best bet is to use the learn feature. It's pretty simple to do, and the remote software will walk you through it. With the Roku Netflix player remote not having many buttons, it should only take you a few minutes.

Good luck, and let me know how it works out.

I did do that in fact, but for some odd reason - my harmony is sending the key's twice... but I will keep playing around with it... :)

Please let me know if you have any luck, I have a harmony as well (one) which uses the same software.

Thanks!

Go into the troubleshooting section for the device and there's a choice related to sending commands too many times. Change the setting to 0 or 1. That should fix it.

Indeed, that worked perfectly! Now I can pack the roku remote away in the box!

I don't know which IR format the remote uses, but they seem fairly standard and well behaved. I was able to "learn" the codes with my Slink-e for my IR system very easily.

I did the same thing with my 880... The only thing I'd add is that I went through the next step as well and added a few commands from the custom list. There're so few required for the N1000 that it didn't take long at all.

I kept it as it is on the Roku box... I set both PLAY and PAUSE on the 880 to be the same IR code from the play/pause combo on the Roku.

I'm using my mx 850 universal remote with learned commands. At first, I only programmed the play button to do play and pause since that's how the Roku remote was, but my wife kept trying to hit the pause button to no avail. I decided to program the pause button to also play and pause. I know it seems counterintuitive to do it that way, but I don't think there's a choice given that the IR code for play and pause is the same. Now my wife can press play and pause like she's used to and at least get the impression of discreet buttons.

All you have to do is go into the trouble shooter. On eof the items is "My device receives too many commands". You just have to reduce the setting from a standard 3 down to 1. That fixed all for me.
