You are not alone.
Picture Quality, with a good script for a movie or the other way round.

The best thing about the update.

I got the update today. I was watching TV, paying no heed to the Roku box as it sat there waiting to be used, when I noticed something about it. The white light. It was off! For a moment, I was frightened that the update broke my box. But after a quick test, I realized that now the light goes off when the box is not in use! That is better than any HD. I use my box in my bedroom, and so the loss of the white light is greatly appreciated.

HD gone

Postby tbirdvoice » Tue Dec 23, 2008 8:36 pm

I watched the beginning of an HD movie yesterday and it was good but not jaw dropping (definitely better but not as good as a DirectTV HD stream.) I went back in to resume playing this evening and it will queue up at 4 dots but no HD symbol. It doesn't look as good to my eyes but also doesn't look like the old SD quality. I did go in to the secret menu and switch from forced 2.5 meg stream to automatic. Should I switch to 3.5 or is automatic correct?

I finally got 1.5 on one of my Roku boxes today. I got 4 dots and the HD symbol when playing "Pan's Labyrnth. I had started it on the 1.01 FW so I could compare. The HD stream does look noticably better. It is sharper, less grainy and generally just nicer overall. For streaming content to a 46" HDTV it looks GREAT! Obiously it's not Blu-Ray quality, but it is damn good.

I have PM'ed a request to get my second player in the queue.
One Netflix account, two Netflix Players by Roku.

I agree, it was close to 5 minutes after putting in the PM Request that we got the 1.5 update.

6meg DSL. Before the update, had 1 dot w/ some re-buffering.
After the update, 4 dots with no re-buffering, quality is FAR better.

Well worth the update, thanks @ the Roku Team for a great update!

New Procedure of Opt In

Postby RokuTaylor » Wed Dec 24, 2008 12:48 am

You no longer have to send me your serial number to get the update immediately. For future updates I think a better method is in order, but for now I have a self-serve option for you.

I've taught the server a new trick. If you check for the software update more than 3 times within about a 30 second period, it should now offer you the 1.5 update. Otherwise you stick to the roll out plan in which case your player should automatically get it before Jan 1.

Just go to Settings>Player Info>Check for update.
It will say "Your software is up to date"
Check again 2 more times. On the 3rd time it should start downloading the software.

Please let me know if this doesn't work as I have described.
