Can't get my ROKU connected to the internet

Postby sleddog218 » Sun Jul 25, 2010 10:06 am

I have a wireless network, including a laptop and Wii that work fine. I just received my ROKU, and when I try to connect, it finds the network, but can't connect to the internet. I haven't had issues with this before, and I tried plugging it into my router directly, but got the same message. I have the proper SSID and password, still no luck. My router is an Actiontec GT704WGR, and I use Qwest. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Sled

well, I can't find a model number listed anywhere on the unit, or even on my order email. It's the ROKU HD, if that helps.

Got it! I did something to my firewall and modem settings (honestly can't remember what I changed now, but the changes made sense at the time) and got it working!

Had a roku box since they first came out. That box failed, no power internal. My set up was wired just through a ethernet swich box, 5 inputs. This worke fine. Roku said it wouln't. Purchased new roku box 6/14/10. Installed & it worked fine. This box had new s/w or f/w, ver 2.5 or 2.6. Much nicer than old box. Then I switched from AT&t Westell DSL modem to Comcast sevice cable modem. I'm sure the movies dowloaded for aboiut 3 days & then I could not connect to LAN or internet. Roku box & TV gave green light for ethernet connection but failed LAN connection after 55 seconds. Then Roku sent a replacement box & this would not connect to LAN. So I tried another ethernet sw box, Netgear to Cisco. Roku said I had to use a router. So I got Linksys G router, wireless. Nothing. Then I got Seagates Home THeater + with wired ethernet. This failed to connect to LAN. Ethernet connection went green but LAN went red after,4 seconds. Much time spent with Roko support & some with Comcast. My next try would be to take the box to some working LAN conection with a Netflix acct & see if it will work. Roku did talk alot about firewall this or that. For me my system worked with just a ethernet sw box.WELAKADON

just a FU to this problem with Comcast cable Modem, the Roku box was not a problem, it is the Comcast side, they must be nervous about routers and some problems they have had. So with a router you must clone the MAC address & computer address to the router & then everything works fine.
