What about the AVOD credit?

Postby chaos » Tue Feb 03, 2009 5:03 pm

Do we still get the $20 credit from AVOD if Roku doesn't select some of us as beta testers. They should have thought this through a lot better.

You get the $20 credit if you were accepted as a beta tester, your Roku player updates to the beta software version and you are able to activate it to your Amazon account.

People who went to the web page first before getting the beta software on their box have not completed the process, and this is where all the confusion is happening. The intended procedure is:

1. Send me your information.
2. Once accepted into the program, the Roku player gets the beta software upgrade.
3. Accessing Amazon Video On Demand on the box refers you to the registration web page.
4. Run through the registration page to marry the box to the Amazon account.
5. $20 credit is issued and the everything is ready for use.

If you sent me your complete information previously, I have you on the list of candidates. Unfortunately, the volume of applicants makes it impossible to send confirmation that your information was received, but in your PM mailbox, if the message you sent is now residing in the "sent" box, it means I received it, opened it, and logged the information.

PM stuck in outbox

Postby mforan » Wed Feb 04, 2009 10:29 am

I registered with Amazon in the time frame and sent RokuJamesL a PM with the info requested. But the PM stays in my Outbox and does not show up in my "Sent" box. Not sure what this means or if it needs correction/additional action.

It means he hasn't yet opened it. It says that right above your post.

RokuJamesL,

Are you still taking people who registered at Amazon on the 2nd?

I know to some it is a big deal to be part of this beta test to see what sort of new technology is going to be present on the roku player. Still, if you did not make the beta test group it will be okay. It is not the last chopper out of Vietnam. It is not life and death. All of us will get the chance after a bit to have all of this new stuff on our players. I love my roku and I post now and then on here and keep up with all the topics. However, some people get a bit dramatic. Like I tell my girlfriend...save the drama for the Lifetime movies.

The big deal isn't being excluded necessarily. It's being told one thing by Amazon and something completely different by Roku. That's what caused this all. Basically, Amazon granted a bunch of us access to the beta when they shouldn't have. They sent us instructions on how to set up our players for the beta and when those instructions didn't work, Roku tried to tell us we were not in the beta. That's when it all hit the fan. I personally put most of the blame on Amazon, but there was some major communication breakdown on both their parts.

The Roku guys did a good job of sorting it all out once they were made aware of it and hopefully everyone learned some lessons for next time.

She hates it. She usually gets up and leaves when I say it. However, her drama is getting less and less. Problem solved. :D

Yes, like I said in the announcement post regarding the beta being closed, if you registered via the Amazon site prior to the cutoff time I noted, you are in. Please don't resend your information again and again. Due to the volume of PMs I get I cannot possibly reply to everyone. Unless you get a PM from me explaining why you are NOT in the program, then you may assume you are in.

Since a couple of days have passed since the mixup with the registration site, I am going to close the Amazon beta completely for now. We may ask for more people in the future, but for now, we have enough participants.

I sent a PM from the original call for beta testers and never heard back. I sent a second request only after reading the Beta closed post. It said to send you a PM if anyone had registered via the Amazon site on Feb 2nd and received an email from them. I only resent my info to let you know that I had registered via Amazon during the dates listed. Sorry, I am sure you were getting tons of request.

Best bet is to allow folks who press update 3 times in a row to get the latest beta update ;p

Based on the email I got from Roku about them gradually adding people throughout February, it's still not clear whether I'm in the beta or on a very long waiting list, even though I was accepted by Amazon on Monday (and sent the info to RokuJamesL the next day). Was I supposed to send him a copy of my email from Amazon along with the requested info?

The way I read it, if you got the email, you're in. Just sit tight and be patient.

They're just overwhelmed. This little snafu really caught them off guard. I was originally told I'd be activated by the end of this week, then got that same email saying there would be a gradual roll out. They're trying to make good on the screwup. Just be patient.
