The only thing I can't figure out w/Firefly is how to copy the playlist order. Otherwise it works fine.

Regarding Roku, iTunes, and all the negatives posted about it. There are a select few companies who are a cut above everyone else. You know, who bend over backwards for the customer. One for example is sierratradingpost.com. and another one is Roku.

Apple threw em a curve and they're working as fast as they can to correct it. These things happen. If you can't wait, go buy a Linksys. See how that works out for you. LOL.

Hi,

Regarding the playlist order question, do you mean that playlists imported into Firefly show up in the wrong order?

If so, please try this:

Get Firefly build 1359 from http://nightlies.mt-daapd.org
Get SoundBridge version 2.5.173 (beta) as detailed here: http://www.rokulabs.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8527

1359 is most likely going to be the official 1.0 release of Firefly (very soon!), and includes some fixes including several related to playlist order.

I though 2.5.173 was the current released version? And that a normal firmwate update would grab it.

So, for me it's just a snap to install. But i do have 4 Mac's and a family. And writing the text took about 5-7 minutes. To teach my 2 children and (much more difficult), my wife how to manage the different playlist with the server will take month

And thats quite NOT ironic. Cause teach her how to do things with this quite simple iTunes took 1,5 years to keep me "question-free".

I hate Steve Jobs. Not for Mac, not for what he has done with/to Apple. Just because he made Mac OS so popular. Since then, i have to declare why or what i love in Mac OS, only cause the Win-lovers won't, and possibly will never understand what's about it. I don't want to discuss why things will not work, if someone else is responsible for.

Please bring back those ultra high prices for macs and drift those people back to bushes. I would like to pay for keeping those nerds away. THIS you may understand as ironic.

If it took your wife 1.5 years to learn iTunes, the Roku should be the least of your worries.

2.5.171 is the current released version. 2.5.173 is a beta with a single fix -- to allow SoundBridge to play Internet radio stations that are in an iTunes playlist, as exported by Firefly. See the link I posted for details.

This is what I did:
1. Uninstall iTunes 7
2. Download the full iTunes 6 install from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
3. Install iTunes 6
4. iTunes 7 will have updated the "iTunes Library.itl" file. iTunes 6 can't use it and will give an error.
5. Luckily, iTunes seems to make a backup, which I found at "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\Previous iTunes Libraries\iTunes Library 2006-09-12.itl"
6. Use this backup copy to overwrite the regular one in the parent directory (My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl)
7. Run iTunes 6 and everything should be back to normal.

DISCLAIMER: This worked fine for me and maybe you'll find it useful.

Good luck!

I just did that and everything is working as before thank God. On another topic all together ITune 7 did some damage on my library with a whole bunch of songs (400-425) that could no longer play as it could not find the song ??!!??. Went back to version 6, all my songs can play no problem. This version 7 looks like a last minute poorly planned beta version that had to be released with their new Ipod video.

No Response from Corporate Management Team

Postby laspero » Mon Sep 25, 2006 1:47 pm

Last week I emailed all the Roku Manage Team (Anthony Wood, Founder and Chief Executive Officer awood@rokulabs.com, Ann Holland, Director of Marketing aholland@rokulabs.com, Greg Garner , Director of Hardware Engineering greg@rokulabs.com) and asked what Roku was going to do about the iTunes problem and got NO RESPONSE. I also told them I wished to return my SoundBridge because I purchased a product that advertises to support iTunes and we see no indications that their product will provide continued support for iTunes.

From their lack of comment we can assume that Roku Corporate doesn't care about their loyal customers.

I did however recieve a response from Roku Support. They are saying:

I apologize for the trouble with the incompatibility of the SoundBridge and iTunes 7 at this time. We are working on a software update for the SoundBridge that will allow it to connect with this version of iTunes. It should be available in a month or two. In the meantime, the best options I can offer is to downgrade to iTunes 6 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605.html) or to use the FireFly media server. Both of these options will work with the SoundBridge until the software for iTunes 7 is ready. We do plan on supporting iTunes 7 soon, and we currently do support iTunes 6.

Hmmmm....

just curious....did you also return your iPod 4G to Apple last year when they broke smart playlists in the 1.2 version of the firmware and iTunes 6.0 and didn't get around to fixing it for over 12 months?? Apple advertised it would work, but it didn't for over a year!

Come on people! Roku is trying to fix the problem for Pete's sake. Nothing I've seen indicates a lack of support or comittment to customers!

I can see the issue form both sides here.

I upgraded to V7 last week, then saw this topic!

Then i followed the instructions to downgrade to V6 and I thought everything was fine again....until I tried to connect my ipods.

Now iTunes can not differentiate between my Nano and 60GB iPod. It shows them both a 60GB units. Nor can I upload songs to either iPod anymore. It says the songs are there but they are not. In iTunes it shows the music but when I disconnect my iPod there is no music uploaded.

I have re-flashed my iPods and uninstalled/re-installed itunes a hundred times using the instructions form the Apple site (even deleted all iTunes references from the registry), but every time I re-connect the Nano it says..."hello 60GB iPod" GRRRRR

Now I can't use iTunes, my iPods or Roku :(

A total bloody mess. After 4 days of head banging I am no closer to resolving my problems (and I am no computer virgin).

Before you say it...I would prefer not to run my Roku off another server. I was quite happy the way it was.

Any advice would be greately appreciated.

Pagemakers...

So did iTunes 7 actually upgrade the firmware on your iPods (I seem to remember reading that this was a new "feature")?

If so, maybe just "re-flashing" them probably isn't going to help. AFAIK, Apple doesn't provide an easy way to "downgrade" firmware on the iPods. I'm not sure what platform you are, but if you're Windows, this thread might help.

Firefly Firefly Firefly :)

Postby lambrettaman » Mon Sep 25, 2006 2:43 pm

Attention Itunes users. Upgrade to 7, it's good. Then pick up your Firefly hammer, run down the auditorium aisle, and fling the hammer through the big Itunes screen.

I was in the Hell No We Won't Go camp ... I get into Itunes because Roku recommended it to me. Now with what Apple is doing, I figured I'd give Firefly a shot. It is a teeny, unobtrusive little app, and it works great. You'll need to get the "nightly" most recent version to use your playlists.

I'm DONE with Itunes for the Roku ... it's just for my Ipods now.

Thanks for the tips.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people 'upgrade' software without researching the consequences first.

Even after checking that everything should work, surely it's prudent to do a full system backup with something like Acronis TI just in case something's been overlooked and a 'proper' roll-back becomes necessary.
