Working now - if the Roku elves fixed something, thanks.

And I fill in the MAC Address and Email fields, and I check the "I agree to the Roku terms of service" checkbox, and I click on the "Sign Up" button, I get this error:

Access denied for user 'apache'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

This happens with both IE and Firefox.

Beta download fails

Postby JonD » Wed Jul 23, 2008 2:12 pm

Hi. I have never managed to get the BBC stations to play on my Pinnacle Soundbridge 1001. So, the current beta release looked promising but... I cannot get the update to download to the Soundbridge. It starts and then fails, never getting past half way. Any clues? (Soundbridge using WiFi)

Roku Soundbridge: World of Pain

Postby paullivingstone » Thu Jul 24, 2008 2:03 am

I'm not a heavy user of the Roku Soundbridge M1000, but whenever I do go to use it, the bloody thing never works. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the latest iTunes software (I haven't used the Roku since I upgraded iTunes), but whatever it is it's giving me a VERY bad impression of Roku products.

Now, I'm using iTunes 7.7 with Quicktime 7.5, streaming to the latest official ROKU software, but everytime I try to play a song I get 'unable to play song'.

So I try to update the firmware to the latest beta... but when I enter my MAC address on the beta sign up page I get this error:

ERROR: I did not understand MAC address "00:10:C6:4A:D0:32". Please try again -- the address should look like 00:0D:4B:XX:XX:XX, where the "X"s are each digits 0 through 9 or letters A through F (upper or lower case).

What the hell is going on? That's a valid MAC address isn't it? I sure hope so because that's what my soundbridge says!

Am I going crazy?

Sure is a MAC address but is it the correct MAC address? Review the instructions on the beta upgrade page carefully: you'll note that with the M1000 you should use the WIRED MAC address even if you're streaming wirelessly. And of course it's advisable to do any upgrade wired rather than wireless.

Hope it's as simple as that...
G5, OS X 10.5.8, 2 x M1000, iTunes 9.0.1, slimserver 6.2.1/alienbbc (now redundant), firefly svn 1586, uNSLUng 6.8

Thanks for the upgrade!

After upgrading to iTunes 7.7, I tried the software update instructions and now both of my M1000 units are working again. Woo! Thanks for fixing this!

Soundbridge 1001 does not recognize iTunes library

Postby cjpfrench » Fri Jul 25, 2008 8:00 pm

My device used to recognize iTunes, I downloaded 3.0.52 the recommended way and completing the download did not generate any error messages. And internet radio works fine. However, the device will still not recognize the iTunes library. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thx in advance

cjp,

The 7.7 update didn't keep users from connecting. I'd check your firewall settings first. Sometimes, a software update requires that you re-enter them.

TCP port 3689
UDP port 5353

Please open both in your firewall.

jonD,

Try the update from safe mode. You may need to try it more than once. You can get into safe mode by holding down any button on the remote while powering up the unit.

iTunes 7.7 problems not completely resolved by 3.0.52

Postby otter » Sat Aug 02, 2008 7:26 am

I have upgraded a M1001 to 3.0.52. This mostly resolved the problems with iTunes 7.7 (now 7.7.1). I still occasionally encounter the "Unable to play" error. This happens sometimes when I select an iTunes playlist and start playing tracks from the middle of the playlist. If I then select the previous track, start playing and then skip to the next track, the track plays properly.

This problem is not reproducible on demand, but has now happened several times since the upgrade to 3.0.52.

BTW - In case this matters, the format of all tracks in the playlist is MP3 256Kb.
